Senegal have dismissed head coach Pape Thiaw following the Teranga Lions' exit in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Thiaw, who took charge in December 2024, saw Senegal lose to France and Norway in the group stage before a 5-0 victory over Iraq secured a place in the knockout rounds as one of the best third-placed teams.
Senegal appeared on course for the Round of 16 after taking a 2-0 lead against Belgium, but conceded twice late in the game before losing 3-2 after extra time.
The defeat sparked criticism, with midfielder Pape Gueye announcing he would take a break from international football while the current coaching setup remained in place.
In a statement, the Senegal Football Federation (FSF) said Thiaw was relieved of his duties following a comprehensive review of the team's performances and future prospects, adding that the decision was made in the best interests of Senegalese football.
