Nigeria's Golden Eaglets suffered a second consecutive defeat at the four-nation invitational tournament in China, losing 4-2 to Australia in an entertaining contest on Wednesday.
The team, led by coach Eboboritse Uwejamomere, is currently in a rebuilding phase after failing to qualify for the last two editions of both the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Despite showing flashes of promise, the five-time FIFA U-17 World Cup champions remain bottom of the standings after conceding seven goals and scoring four across their opening two matches.
The Golden Eaglets began the tournament with a 3-2 loss to Tanzania and were eager to respond against Australia. However, recurring defensive mistakes once again proved costly as the Joeys took full advantage of the lapses to seal a deserved 4-2 victory.
With two defeats from two matches, Uwejamomere's side will now look to salvage some pride and end the tournament on a positive note in their final outing.
