Newcastle United have agreed a deal worth up to £34 million to sign highly rated Monaco midfielder Aladji Bamba.
The 20-year-old French midfielder is expected to arrive on Tyneside on Thursday to undergo a medical before completing a long-term contract with the Magpies.
Bamba, who made his senior debut for Monaco in August 2025, becomes Newcastle's latest investment in emerging talent as the club continues to reshape its squad.
The move follows the departure of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur last month, with Newcastle targeting another young midfielder after already securing the signing of 18-year-old Sean Steur from Ajax. The Magpies had also shown interest in Freiburg's Johan Manzambi, but the Swiss youngster opted to join Aston Villa.
Despite his limited first-team experience, Bamba impressed during his breakthrough campaign in Ligue 1. Among midfielders who played at least 500 minutes last season, he ranked among the league's top five for duels won (9.1 per game), tackles (3.6), successful take-ons (1.6), and aerial duels won (1.9) highlighting his all-action style and defensive quality.
Newcastle Investing in the Future
The signing reflects a clear shift in Newcastle's recruitment strategy under the club's current leadership.
Rather than spending heavily on established stars, the Magpies have focused on identifying some of Europe's brightest young prospects before their market value rises further.
Bamba joins a growing group of promising arrivals, including Sean Steur, Ewen Jaouen, and Bazoumana Toure, all of whom are expected to require time to adapt to the physical demands and intensity of Premier League football.
With only 12 competitive starts for Monaco, Bamba remains a raw talent, but Newcastle believe his potential justifies the investment.
Negotiations for the transfer, much like the club's £23 million move for Steur, were conducted discreetly, with news of the agreement only emerging as Bamba travelled to Tyneside.
The France youth international is set to become Newcastle's fourth signing of the summer, as the club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season.
The Magpies are still expected to pursue further reinforcements before the transfer window closes, but Bamba's arrival underlines their long-term commitment to building a squad around elite young talent.
