Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has revealed that he is adapting well to life under new Besiktas head coach Vincenzo Italiano, with the midfielder praising the Italian manager’s flexible tactical approach.
Ndidi explained that Italiano does not limit players to fixed positional roles, instead encouraging them to contribute in both defensive and attacking phases as the team continues preparations for the new season.
The Nigerian midfielder joined Besiktas from Leicester City last year and quickly became an important figure under former manager Sergen Yalcin. However, he was unable to help the Turkish giants secure major success last season, with Besiktas finishing fourth in the league, a result that contributed to Yalcin’s departure at the end of the campaign.
Italiano was appointed as the club’s new head coach last month, and Ndidi was among the early arrivals for pre-season training. The 29-year-old featured in Besiktas’ opening friendly on July 5 as the squad began preparations in Slovakia.
Speaking to beIN Sports Turkey, Ndidi said the new coach’s philosophy gives players more freedom on the pitch and allows them to make an impact beyond their traditional positions.
The Super Eagles skipper continues to be linked with a possible summer exit from Besiktas, but for now, he remains focused on adapting to Italiano’s methods and helping the club achieve its targets.
