New Real Madrid coach José Mourinho has declared a “mission” to build the right culture at the club as he begins his second spell in charge.
The Portuguese manager was at the club’s training ground on Friday overseeing preparations for the new season after replacing Álvaro Arbeloa in June.
Mourinho’s return comes after Real Madrid endured two trophyless seasons, with president Florentino Pérez hoping the veteran coach can restore discipline, responsibility and stability to the dressing room.
“Words are not enough because this is like a mission,” Mourinho told Real Madrid TV.
“I’m here to help everyone become better — players and staff — and create a culture of work, responsibility, ambition and the honour of working for Real Madrid.”
The club faced dressing-room challenges last season, with Xabi Alonso leaving in January and reported tensions involving midfielders Aurélien Tchouaméni and Fede Valverde.
Mourinho’s immediate task will be finding the right balance among Real Madrid’s star players, including Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham and Vinícius Júnior, after previous managers struggled to maximise the attacking trio.
