Former Super Eagles defender Michael Emenalo has stepped down as Chief Football Executive of the Saudi Pro League after completing a transformative three-year spell that helped elevate the competition into one of the world's fastest-growing football leagues.
The 59-year-old also relinquished his role as head of the league's Player Acquisition Centre of Excellence, a department established to oversee transfer strategy and modernise football operations across Saudi clubs.
According to reports, Emenalo's departure follows the completion of the contract he signed when he joined the Saudi Pro League in 2023 and is not linked to any disagreement or dissatisfaction. Instead, it marks the successful conclusion of the ambitious project he was recruited to lead.
Emenalo is now understood to be keen on returning to Europe, where he hopes to spend more time with his family while preparing for the next phase of his career in football administration.
His availability has already sparked interest across Europe, with several clubs reportedly opening preliminary discussions over a potential appointment, although no organisation has publicly confirmed its interest.
In a farewell message, Emenalo expressed pride in the progress made during his tenure.
"We set out to do something few believed possible. I leave our league on a strong footing, well positioned for continued success," he said.
