AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze is determined to fight for his place under new manager Ruben Amorim after returning to the Serie A club, despite attracting interest from Turkish side Trabzonspor.
Chukwueze was the subject of transfer discussions between Milan and Trabzonspor, but the Nigeria international was not keen on the move. The Rossoneri also rejected a €15m offer from the Turkish club.
The 26-year-old has returned to San Siro following a loan spell at Fulham, after the Premier League side opted against activating the €26m purchase option included in the agreement.
During his stint at Craven Cottage, Chukwueze scored three goals and registered four assists in 23 Premier League appearances, forming an impressive attacking partnership with fellow Nigerians Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey.
Although the Super Eagles winger preferred to remain in England, Fulham's decision not to make the move permanent has seen him return to Milan, where he has two years remaining on the five-year contract he signed after joining from Villarreal in 2023 for €20m.
According to Sempre Milan, Trabzonspor remain eager to sign Chukwueze despite seeing their opening bid turned down.
"Despite this stalemate, the Turkish club continue to push for Chukwueze, considering him one of their primary objectives for the season," the report stated.
It added that Amorim intends to assess the winger during Milan's pre-season preparations before making a decision on his future.
"Amorim must decide whether he sees a use for him next season. The Portuguese coach would like to test him on the pitch and evaluate him closely during the pre-season camp in July.
"From the player's perspective, the underlying idea is exactly the same: Chukwueze wants to try and fight for a place, with a role behind the striker perhaps well suited."
Since joining Milan, Chukwueze has struggled to secure a regular starting role despite showing flashes of his talent.
With Amorim set to reshape the squad ahead of the new campaign, the Nigerian now has an opportunity to revive his Milan career through a strong pre-season. However, if he fails to convince the Portuguese coach, a permanent move elsewhere could still offer the fresh start he needs ahead of Nigeria's upcoming international assignments.
