FIFA Set to Receive First External Funding in October

0

FIFA is on course to receive its first external investment by the end of October as President Gianni Infantino pushes ahead with plans to create a subsidiary company to manage FIFA competitions and attract private investors.

The proposal, which requires approval from FIFA's 211 member associations by 19 September, has sparked widespread criticism over a lack of transparency and consultation.

Documents seen by BBC Sport reveal that investors are expected to confirm funding in September, finalize agreements in October, and transfer funds before the end of the month.

UEFA has strongly opposed the plan, accusing FIFA of pressuring associations with a deadline tied to financial incentives. The Football Association and several other confederations have also expressed concerns after reportedly learning of the proposal through the media.

Meanwhile, the World Leagues Association has urged FIFA to abandon the project, warning it creates a conflict between FIFA's role as football's regulator and its commercial interests.

Despite the growing backlash, FIFA is continuing with the process, with the outcome of September's vote set to determine the future of the controversial investment plan.
