England Edge Norway 2-1 to Reach World Cup Semi-finals

Jude Bellingham delivered another match-winning performance as England came from behind to beat Norway 2-1 after extra-time and secure a place in the FIFA World Cup semi-finals on Saturday.

The Real Madrid midfielder struck twice for the second consecutive match, extending his outstanding tournament form after also netting a brace in England's dramatic 3-2 victory over Mexico in the Round of 16.

Norway, making their first-ever World Cup quarter-final appearance, stunned England when Andreas Schjelderup fired them into an early lead under the sweltering Miami heat.

However, Bellingham restored parity just before half-time with a moment of individual brilliance. Collecting Anthony Gordon's pass, he burst into the penalty area before calmly finishing with his weaker left foot.

England thought they had completed the turnaround before the break when Bellingham set up Harry Kane, who delicately chipped Ørjan Nyland, but the captain's effort was ruled out for offside.

Norway believed they had regained the lead in the second half, only for the goal to be chalked off following a VAR review that spotted a foul by Erling Haaland in the build-up.

With both sides struggling physically, the contest stretched into extra time, where Bellingham produced the decisive moment once again. The 23-year-old capitalised on a costly mistake by Nyland to slot home his sixth goal of the tournament and send England into the last four.

England will now face either Argentina or Switzerland on Wednesday for a place in their first World Cup final since lifting the trophy in 1966.

"We are in the last four. It's amazing, but I'm not happy with the performance in every sense," England manager Thomas Tuchel said after the match.

"We made life difficult for ourselves with the way we played. We were sloppy, made too many technical mistakes and weren't quick enough. We were lucky today."

Haaland, whose remarkable run of scoring in 14 consecutive competitive internationals came to an end against the country of his birth, was substituted during extra time after an exhausting display.

England had overturned a deficit in a World Cup knockout match only once before this tournament — in the 1966 final. They have now achieved the feat twice in three knockout games.

Jordan Pickford made a crucial early save to deny Martin Ødegaard, while Alexander Sørloth squandered a golden opportunity after opting to shoot instead of passing to an unmarked Haaland.

Ultimately, though, it was Bellingham who stole the headlines again, inspiring England to another memorable comeback and keeping alive their dream of ending a 60-year wait for World Cup glory.
