Chelsea Seal Club-Record £117m Move for Morgan Rogers

Chelsea have reached an agreement worth £117 million to sign Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers in a deal that will set a new club transfer record.

The transfer fee also establishes a new record for the highest amount ever paid for an English player.

The 23-year-old is expected to sign a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea holding the option to extend the deal by a further year.

Rogers is due in London for a medical on Monday after concluding his international commitments with England at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The £117m fee surpasses the £116m Manchester City paid Nottingham Forest for fellow England midfielder Elliot Anderson earlier this summer, making Rogers the most expensive English player in history.

It also eclipses Chelsea's previous club-record signing of Enzo Fernandez, who joined from Benfica for £107m in 2023.

New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is continuing to reshape his squad ahead of the new Premier League season, with Rogers viewed as one of the marquee additions to his rebuilding project.

Rogers' rise has been remarkable. A product of Manchester City's academy, he revitalised his career during a loan spell with Middlesbrough before joining Aston Villa permanently in February 2024.

Under Unai Emery, the midfielder flourished, scoring 21 goals in 85 league appearances while playing a key role in Villa's Europa League triumph last season.

His impressive performances also earned him a place in the England senior squad. Rogers has won 21 caps, scored one international goal, and featured in six matches at this summer's World Cup.
