Cape Verde head coach Bubista has praised his players for their remarkable showing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying they can hold their heads high after the country's historic campaign.
The Blue Sharks bowed out of the tournament following a thrilling 3-2 extra-time defeat to defending champions Argentina in Miami. The tournament debutants fought back twice before an own goal ended their dream run.
Despite the heartbreaking exit, Bubista said his side had represented the island nation with pride and exceeded expectations on football's biggest stage.
"We dignify what our country is. We drew level twice against the world champions and took the game to extra time," Bubista told FIFA.com.
"More than anything, I'm proud of our players. They represented Cape Verde with dignity at the World Cup and showed our identity."
