Balogun apologises to fans after US W’Cup exit

United States forward Folarin Balogun has issued an emotional apology to fans following the team's disappointing exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The AS Monaco striker found himself at the centre of controversy after FIFA overturned the red card he received against Bosnia and Herzegovina, making him eligible to feature in the United States' Round of 16 clash against Belgium.

Balogun started the match, but the co-hosts suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat as Belgium brought their World Cup campaign to an end.

Reacting to the painful elimination, the 25-year-old took to social media to express his disappointment and apologise to supporters.

"My debut World Cup. It hurts to wait four years to compete at the highest level our sport has to offer," Balogun wrote.

"I want to say sorry to our fans. It wasn't good enough when it mattered most, and we let you down. Soccer in America will only become bigger. The belief, the talent, and the passion continue to grow, and I know our best days are still ahead of us.

"The future belongs to those who never stop believing. This moment will fuel us. We will be back. Why not us? For the nation. For the flag."
