Trabzonspor Step Up Search for Potential Onuachu Successor

0

Trabzonspor have begun exploring contingency plans for the possible departure of Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu, with Uzbekistan captain Eldor Shomurodov emerging as a leading replacement target.

According to Turkish outlet Taka Gazete, the Super Lig club has quietly intensified its search for alternative attacking options despite public assurances from club president ErtuÄŸrul DoÄŸan that Onuachu is not for sale  even for a reported fee of €20 million.

The scouting move comes amid growing interest in the Super Eagles forward, whose impressive performances last season have attracted attention from clubs across Europe.

Shomurodov, who currently plays for İstanbul BaÅŸakÅŸehir, has reportedly risen to the top of Trabzonspor’s shortlist. The experienced Uzbekistan international enjoyed a prolific 2025/26 campaign, finishing as the joint top scorer in the Süper Lig alongside Onuachu, with both players netting 22 goals.

His proven goal-scoring ability and familiarity with Turkish football make him an attractive option should Trabzonspor be forced to part ways with their Nigerian star.

Onuachu remains under contract with Trabzonspor until the end of the 2027/28 season and is coming off one of the most productive seasons of his career. While the club continues to insist that the 31-year-old is not available for transfer, their ongoing scouting activities suggest they are preparing for every eventuality.

For now, Trabzonspor's stance remains unchanged, but the pursuit of Shomurodov indicates the club is determined not to be caught unprepared should interest in Onuachu translate into a concrete offer this summer.
