France defender Ibrahima Konaté is in advanced talks to join Real Madrid on a free transfer, with the move expected to go through when his Liverpool contract expires at the end of June.
According to reports from the Daily Telegraph, Konaté is close to agreeing terms with the La Liga giants ahead of a switch to the Santiago Bernabéu. Liverpool confirmed on Sunday that the 27-year-old will leave the club at the end of his current deal.
The centre-back had previously been in negotiations over a contract extension on Merseyside, but discussions broke down due to a gap in valuation and wage demands between the player and the club.
Konaté made 183 appearances for Liverpool, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and two League Cups. He joined the Reds from RB Leipzig in 2021 for £35m.
If completed, he will become the second Liverpool player in consecutive summers to join Real Madrid on a free transfer, following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move last year.
