Former Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez has tipped Bayern Munich winger Luis Diaz to win the Ballon d’Or, insisting his Colombian compatriot is already among the best players in world football.
Rodriguez believes Diaz could emerge as a leading contender for football’s most prestigious individual award if Colombia enjoy a successful campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and reach the final of the tournament.
Speaking in comments quoted by Fabrizio Romano, Rodriguez praised the former Liverpool star’s current form and impact on the global stage.
“Luis Diaz as Ballon d’Or, why not? For me, he is top five in the world right now already,” Rodriguez said.
“If we get to the final, he can win the Ballon d’Or.”
Diaz has enjoyed an impressive spell at Bayern Munich since his move from Liverpool, playing a key role in the club’s Bundesliga title triumph last season.
The Colombian international continues to establish himself as one of Europe’s most influential attacking players, with his performances for both club and country earning widespread recognition.
