Ireland men's head coach Andy Farrell has committed his future to Irish rugby after signing a contract extension with the Irish Rugby Football Union until 2031.

Farrell, 50, has overseen one of the most successful periods in Ireland's history since taking charge in 2019, guiding the team to two Six Nations titles, including a Grand Slam triumph in 2023, and a landmark Test series victory over New Zealand.

After temporarily stepping aside in 2025 to lead the British & Irish Lions on a successful tour of Australia, Farrell returned to Dublin and has now pledged his long-term future to the national side.

His previous deal was due to run until the 2027 Rugby World Cup, but the new agreement means he will also lead Ireland into the 2031 tournament in the United States.

“I am incredibly proud to continue this journey with Irish Rugby,” Farrell said. “What excites me most is the strength of the pathways system and the quality of talent coming through. I believe the best is yet to come.”

IRFU Performance Director David Humphreys described the extension as a key investment in the long-term success of the national team, praising Farrell's leadership, high standards and ability to create an environment where players and staff can thrive at the highest level.
