Former Super Eagles midfielder Peter Odemwingie has questioned Nigeria’s chances of winning the FIFA World Cup while many of the country’s top talents continue to represent other nations.
Speaking on the issue of dual-nationality players, Odemwingie expressed concern that Nigeria consistently loses promising footballers to countries like England, limiting the national team’s overall strength and depth.
He argued that if more of these players committed to Nigeria, the Super Eagles would be significantly stronger on the global stage and better equipped to compete with football’s elite nations.
Odemwingie’s comments highlight a long-standing debate around player development, eligibility, and the challenge African nations face in retaining top talents born or raised abroad.
His remarks have reignited conversations among fans about talent identification, youth development, and the need for stronger incentives to convince dual-eligible players to represent Nigeria internationally.
