Liverpool are set to open formal talks with Andoni Iraola this week as they step up their search for a new head coach.
The Reds parted ways with Arne Slot on Saturday, just a year after he guided the club to the Premier League title, prompting a swift move to identify a successor.
Bournemouth manager Iraola has emerged as the leading candidate after delivering the club’s best-ever season, securing a sixth-place finish and Europa League qualification.
The 43-year-old Spaniard, who announced in April that he would leave Bournemouth this summer, has also attracted interest from Crystal Palace and AC Milan.
Liverpool’s hierarchy, led by Michael Edwards and sporting director Richard Hughes, are believed to be targeting a more aggressive, front-foot playing style as part of their long-term direction.
Iraola, who previously worked with Hughes during his time at Bournemouth, is now expected to be central to discussions as the club move quickly to appoint a new manager.
