Konate expresses sadness over Liverpool exit

France defender Ibrahima Konaté has expressed his sadness after being unable to say goodbye to Liverpool supporters following confirmation of his departure from the club this summer.

The 27-year-old centre-back joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 for £35m and went on to make 183 appearances, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and two League Cups during his time at Anfield.

Konaté had been in discussions over a contract extension, but talks reportedly broke down due to differences over valuation and wages, bringing an end to his four-year stay on Merseyside.

In a heartfelt message shared on Instagram, Konaté thanked fans for their support but admitted his disappointment at not getting the chance to farewell them during Liverpool’s final Premier League match of the season against Bournemouth.

“I am deeply saddened that I didn’t get the chance to say goodbye to all of you at the last game,” he wrote. “Anfield is truly a special place, and playing in front of you was something I never took for granted.”

Liverpool also confirmed his exit in a statement, thanking him for his contribution and wishing him well for the future.

Konaté reflected on his time at the club as “an honour,” highlighting both triumphs and personal challenges, including the loss of teammate Diogo Jota and his father, saying he always remained committed to giving his best for the badge.
