Francis Uzoho has urged newly invited Super Eagles goalkeepers, including Arthur Okonkwo and Michael Atata, to stay mentally strong and composed amid the pressure that comes with representing Nigeria.
Speaking ahead of Nigeria’s Unity Cup semi-final clash against Zimbabwe in London, Uzoho said he had already started mentoring the newcomers on handling expectations in the national team setup.
According to the experienced goalkeeper, the key challenge is not talent but mentality. He stressed that the players are already good goalkeepers, but must learn to cope with criticism, pressure, and the emotional demands of playing for the Super Eagles.
Uzoho explained that he prefers offering guidance gradually rather than overwhelming younger teammates with too much information at once. He advised them to remain relaxed, trust their abilities, and be prepared for both highs and lows in international football.
Okonkwo, who recently switched allegiance from England to Nigeria after starring for Wrexham, is expected to compete with established names for a place in the national team.
