Aghazu has called for greater investment in grassroots athletics development across Nigeria, stressing that the future of the country’s track and field success depends on discovering and nurturing young talents at an early stage.
According to Aghazu, many talented athletes across schools and local communities lack adequate training facilities, coaching support, and exposure to competitive events that could help them grow into elite performers. He noted that consistent grassroots programmes would not only improve Nigeria’s chances in international competitions but also create more opportunities for young people through sports.
He urged sports authorities, private organisations, and stakeholders to collaborate in building stronger developmental structures, including school competitions, talent identification programmes, and modern training centres. Aghazu added that investing in youth athletics would help revive Nigeria’s dominance in track and field on the African and global stage.
The athletics advocate also encouraged former athletes to contribute to mentoring and supporting upcoming talents, saying their experience could play a vital role in shaping the next generation of champions.
