Andrea Pavan says he is “optimistic” about returning to golf after suffering serious injuries in a fall down an open lift shaft.
The 36-year-old dropped three storeys at his accommodation near Stellenbosch ahead of the South African Open, sustaining major shoulder damage and fractures to his spine that required surgery.
Pavan explained his recovery will take time, with full healing potentially up to a year, but said early signs are encouraging despite risks of further complications.
He also recalled the terrifying moment of the accident and praised the strong support he received from fellow players during his hospital stay, which he described as “overwhelming” and comforting.
