Matt Fitzpatrick produced a brilliant, bogey-free 63 to take the lead at the RBC Heritage, moving to 14 under par after a challenging second round in South Carolina.
The former US Open champion handled tough conditions, including heat and tricky winds, and was helped by a slice of luck on the 14th hole when his tee shot bounced off a cart path and stayed out of the water—setting up a long birdie putt which he converted.
Fitzpatrick then finished strongly with more birdies late in his round to move one shot clear of Viktor Hovland, who remains close behind after his own solid performance.
World number one Scottie Scheffler is further back despite a steady round, while others struggled with the difficult conditions on the course.
