Legendary manager Mircea Lucescu has died at the age of 80, just five days after stepping down as Romania’s head coach.
He resigned after falling ill before a training session and was later treated in hospital following a reported heart attack. The Romanian Football Federation paid tribute to him, calling him a true legend and a major figure in the country’s football history.
Lucescu had two spells managing Romania and last led the team in a play-off loss to Turkey that ended their hopes of reaching the 2026 World Cup.
During his long career, he also managed top clubs like Inter Milan, Galatasaray, and Shakhtar Donetsk, becoming one of the most respected managers in football.
