George Russell took pole position for the Australian Grand Prix as Mercedes dominated qualifying at the start of Formula 1’s new rules era.
Russell was fastest, finishing 0.363 seconds ahead of team-mate Kimi Antonelli, while Isack Hadjar of Red Bull Racing took third.
Defending champion Max Verstappen crashed on his first lap, leaving questions about how dominant Mercedes really are.
Charles Leclerc was fourth, ahead of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, with Lewis Hamilton just behind them.
Meanwhile, 18-year-old Arvid Lindblad made a strong F1 debut and qualified ninth, just behind team-mate Liam Lawson.
