Police and fans were injured after supporters of Celtic F.C. and Rangers F.C. clashed during a pitch invasion following their Old Firm match in Glasgow.
Trouble broke out at Ibrox Stadium after Celtic won 4–2 on penalties in the Scottish Cup quarter-final. Celtic fans first ran onto the pitch to celebrate, before Rangers supporters also joined, leading to clashes. Flares were thrown while police and stewards formed barriers to separate the groups.
Police Scotland said several arrests were made and described the scenes as “despicable” and “shameful.” Officers and members of the public were injured during the violence. Police said some supporters had entered the Broomloan Stand without tickets, which also caused delays at the stadium entrances.
The Scottish Football Association condemned the pitch invasion and said an investigation would begin immediately. Scotland’s community safety minister Siobhan Brown also called the scenes “unacceptable,” particularly the use of flares that could have caused serious injuries.
Both clubs have not yet issued official comments on the incident.
