League One side Port Vale F.C. shocked Sunderland A.F.C. to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup for the first time since 1954.
Ben Waine scored the only goal with a looping header after a corner, giving the struggling third-tier side a famous win. Sunderland hit the post early through Eliezer Mayenda but struggled to break down Vale’s defence.
Port Vale, currently bottom of League One, defended strongly and held on for the upset victory despite late pressure from the visitors. The win continues their impressive FA Cup run, having now knocked out a team 57 places above them in the football pyramid.
