Luke Humphries won the Belgian Darts Open after beating Jonny Clayton 8-6 in the final, then jokingly said he’s aiming to be the “second-best player in the world.”
Humphries took control of the final early, racing into a 6-1 lead. Clayton fought back to make it close, but Humphries kept his composure and finished the match with a strong 13-dart leg to seal the title.
On his way to the trophy, Humphries edged past Chris Dobey in a tight quarter-final and then comfortably beat Michael van Gerwen in the semi-finals. The win marks his ninth European Tour title.
After lifting the trophy, Humphries joked about his ranking, saying he will keep pushing to become the “second-best,” a playful comment likely aimed at current world number one Luke Littler.
Littler, however, had already been knocked out earlier in the tournament after a surprise 6-5 loss to Niels Zonneveld. Zonneveld produced a stunning 147 finish in the final leg to secure the upset and end Littler’s unbeaten run.
