Mercedes driver George Russell said he was surprised by McLaren’s pace after Oscar Piastri set the fastest time in practice at the Japanese Grand Prix.
Russell, who is leading the championship, finished third and admitted McLaren looked very quick, with both Piastri and Lando Norris showing strong speed.
He said Mercedes still has work to do before qualifying, as some issues with his driving and car performance affected his lap time.
