Sonay Kartal showed strong fighting spirit as she came from behind to beat Madison Keys in the third round of the Indian Wells Open.
The British player lost the first set but fought back to win 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, despite dealing with a back injury during the match. Keys, the 2025 Australian Open champion, had started strongly but could not stop Kartal’s comeback.
Kartal, currently ranked 54th, said the win showed her determination and belief that she can beat anyone on these courts. She now moves into the last 16 where she will face Elena Rybakina.
Elsewhere, Katerina Siniakova knocked out defending champion Mirra Andreeva, while Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegulaalso progressed to the fourth round.
