FIFA Punishes Nigeria and DR Congo Over World Cup Play-off Issues

0

FIFA has punished the national teams of Nigeria national football team and DR Congo national football team after disciplinary problems during their 2026 World Cup continental play-off in November.

According to FIFA’s disciplinary report, both the Nigeria Football Federation and DR Congo Football Association broke different rules during the match.

The NFF was fined 1,000 Swiss francs after fans were found throwing objects during the game, meaning the federation failed to properly control order and security in the stadium.

Meanwhile, FECOFA received a higher fine of 5,000 Swiss francs because some supporters used laser pointers or similar devices, which is also against FIFA’s rules.

The BBC said it has contacted both football bodies for their reaction but has not yet received a response.
