Manchester City face a tough task to keep their Champions League hopes alive after Federico Valverde’s first-half hat-trick put Real Madrid firmly in control of the last-16 clash.
Valverde dominated the game, exposing Man City’s defensive problems, even though Real Madrid were missing Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo.
Thibaut Courtois set up the first goal with a long pass before Valverde beat Gianluigi Donnarumma to score. He added a second soon after and completed his hat-trick with a brilliant volley.
Vinicius later missed a penalty after being fouled by Donnarumma, while Courtois denied Nico O’Reilly to keep Real Madrid in control.
