Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has invested in a new global chess tour.
The 25-year-old is backing Norway Chess, which plans to launch the Total Chess World Championship Tour next year. The tour will feature four tournaments in different cities, with a world champion decided across classic, rapid, and blitz formats.
Supported by FIDE, the tour will have at least $2.7m prize money each season. Haaland said chess is like football because it requires quick thinking, strategy, and planning, and believes the tour can make chess more popular worldwide.
