Ukraine’s Winter Paralympics team will boycott the opening ceremony after Russian and Belarusian athletes were allowed to compete under their national flags at the Milan-Cortina Games starting 6 March.
The two countries had been banned after Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, but the IPC lifted the ban, and the Court of Arbitration for Sport overruled FIS to allow their athletes via special invitations.
Ukraine will still compete but called the decision “shameful” and requested their flag not be used. They also received bipartite slots in three sports.
