Two sailors are in stable condition after a “catastrophic” crash between the New Zealand Sail GP team and France Sail GP team on the opening day of the New Zealand Sail Grand Prix in Auckland.
The collision occurred at the start of race three when New Zealand lost control and veered sharply in front of the French boat. Races three and four were abandoned, and both teams will miss Sunday’s action due to damage.
France driver Quentin Delapierre said the incident was “tough for everyone” and emphasized safety improvements to prevent future crashes.
