Co-hosts Sri Lanka are out of the T20 World Cup after a 61-run defeat to New Zealand in Colombo.
Sri Lanka needed a win to keep their semi-final hopes alive and were in control when New Zealand were 98-6 after 16 overs. But a late onslaught from Mitchell Santner (47 off 26) and Cole McConchie (31*) saw New Zealand smash 70 runs in the last four overs to post 169.
Chasing 169, Sri Lanka’s top order collapsed. Matt Henry struck early, and Rachin Ravindra’s four wickets left Sri Lanka struggling at 29-4. They never recovered and finished on 107-8.
New Zealand stay in the race for the semi-finals and can qualify with a win over England, while Sri Lanka bow out after another disappointing result.
