Ryan Garcia claimed his first major world title with a dominant unanimous decision win over Mario Barrios to become the new World Boxing Council welterweight champion in Las Vegas.
Garcia floored Barrios with a right hand inside the opening 30 seconds and controlled all 12 rounds, winning 119-108, 120-107 and 118-109 on the scorecards. After the fight at T-Mobile Arena, the 27-year-old called out Shakur Stevenson, saying he wants to face the newly crowned WBO super-lightweight champion next.
The victory marks Garcia’s first win since his upset loss to Rolando Romero and follows his 2024 no contest against Devin Haney after a failed drugs test.
