Tottenham Hotspur are in a relegation battle, according to former England captain Wayne Rooney, after their poor run of Premier League form continued.
A 2-0 defeat to Manchester United left Spurs without a win in seven league games and sitting 15th in the table, just six points above the relegation zone. Rooney said Tottenham’s current form means they cannot ignore the threat of going down.
Rooney also criticised captain Cristian Romero, who was sent off against United, saying his behaviour and comments off the pitch are adding pressure on manager Thomas Frank. While expressing sympathy for Frank, Rooney warned that Tottenham need better performances and discipline if they are to avoid being dragged further into trouble.
