Tottenham manager Thomas Frank says captain Cristian Romero is a leader but needs to learn how to better control his aggression after being sent off for the second time this season. Romero received a red card for a challenge on Casemiro during Spurs’ 2-0 defeat to Manchester United, which rules him out for four matches.
Frank said the 27-year-old Argentina defender has the qualities to succeed and is still learning as a young leader. He explained that Romero plays with a lot of passion, which can sometimes lead to mistakes, but stressed that he must learn from the incident. Frank also confirmed Romero will keep the captain’s armband.
Romero will miss domestic games until Tottenham face Liverpool on 15 March.
Tottenham will also be without defender Destiny Udogie for four to five weeks due to a hamstring injury, adding to the club’s injury problems. Dejan Kulusevski’s return remains unclear after a long-term knee injury.
After a seven-match winless run, Spurs sit 15th in the Premier League, six points above the relegation zone. Frank admitted the team is desperate for wins and fully aware of the difficult situation they are in.
