Emma Raducanu showed real determination to beat Oleksandra Oliynykova and reach her first final since winning the 2021 US Open. The British number one won a tough, three-hour match 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 at the Transylvania Open.
Since her famous US Open triumph, Raducanu has struggled with injuries, coaching changes, and inconsistent form. She had lost her last three WTA semi-finals, making Friday’s win a big breakthrough. Raducanu fought back strongly in the deciding set and held her nerve to finally close out the match.
The win also marks a special moment for British tennis, as Katie Boulter reached another final on the same day, making it the first time two British women have reached Tour-level finals on the same day. Raducanu will now face Sorana Cirstea in the final, chasing her first title in five years.
