Rory McIlroy is just one shot behind leaders Marco Penge and Jacob Bridgeman at the halfway point of the Genesis Invitational in Los Angeles.
Penge shot an impressive eight-under-par 64, making five birdies in his final seven holes to reach 12 under overall. His effort was even more notable as he had to finish his weather-delayed first round before starting his second. Bridgeman later matched that 64 to share the lead.
McIlroy carded a seven-under 65 to move to 11 under, saying the course at Riviera was more forgiving than Pebble Beach, where he finished joint 14th last week.
World number one Scottie Scheffler made the cut at level par after holing a key putt on the 18th.
