Luke Littler was hailed as “the greatest darts player ever” by Luke Humphries after the 19-year-old beat him 6-5 to win his first World Masters title.
The victory gives Littler 11 major PDC titles, putting him joint-third in the PDC era alongside James Wade, behind only Michael van Gerwen and Phil Taylor. Humphries, who narrowly lost the final, said Littler’s ability to handle pressure sets him apart and praised his class and composure.
Littler’s World Masters win came after a thrilling semi-final victory over Gerwyn Price and means the European Championship is now the only major TV title missing from his collection. The final itself was high quality, with 25 maximums and several momentum swings, before Littler sealed the £100,000 prize on his favourite double 10.
Despite Humphries averaging slightly higher and fighting back from behind, Littler dug deep when he was exhausted, produced his best darts at the crucial moment, and held his nerve in the deciding set to claim the title.
