Liverpool must pay Chelsea at least £2.8m for winger Rio Ngumoha, a 17-year-old who moved from Chelsea’s academy in 2024 and signed his first professional contract with the Reds a year later.
The Professional Football Compensation Committee (PFCC) tribunal set the initial fee, which could rise with add-ons if certain conditions are met. Chelsea will also get 20% of any profit if Liverpool sell Ngumoha in the future.
Ngumoha has already made 13 appearances this season for Liverpool, scoring a dramatic 100th-minute winner against Newcastle on his Premier League debut, becoming the youngest goalscorer in the club’s history. The England Under-19 international moved for a clearer path to first-team football despite Chelsea offering future contracts.
