Michael Leask and George Munsey starred as Scotland beat World Cup newcomers Italy by 73 runs at Eden Gardens. Munsey, who was dropped on 40, smashed 84 as Scotland posted 207-4 in 20 overs, with Leask hitting 22 off the last five balls.
Leask kept up the momentum with the ball, dismissing Italian opener Justin Mosca with the first delivery, while Munsey took a sharp diving catch. Even though brothers Ben and Harry Manenti shared a 73-run partnership, Italy couldn’t keep up with the scoring rate, and Scotland cleaned up the tail for an easy win.
Italy captain Wayne Madsen couldn’t bat due to a dislocated shoulder, and the team was bowled out for 134 in 16.4 overs. Leask finished with brilliant figures of 4-17, Mark Watt added 2-24, and Munsey grabbed four catches.
Scotland, with one win from two matches, play England on Saturday, while Italy face Nepal on Thursday.
