Josh Rock blamed the bathroom soap he used before going on stage for his poor display in a 6-2 Premier League defeat to Michael van Gerwen in Antwerp.
The 24-year-old said the soap removed the natural oils from his fingers, leaving him unable to grip his darts properly. Viewers saw him repeatedly wiping his hands and licking his fingers during the match.
Rock has now packed chalk and wax in his case to avoid the problem happening again.
