India beat Zimbabwe by 72 runs to keep their T20 World Cup title defence alive and knock Zimbabwe out of the tournament.

India scored a huge 256-4 in Chennai, the second-highest total in T20 World Cup history. Abhishek Sharma made 55, Hardik Pandya smashed a quick half-century off 23 balls, and Tilak Varma added an unbeaten 44 from just 16 balls.

In reply, Zimbabwe chased 257 but could only rely on Brian Bennett, who scored an unbeaten 97. Sikandar Raza added 31, but the rest of the team could not keep up.

The win keeps India’s semi-final hopes alive. They must beat West Indies in Kolkata to secure a place in the last four.
