Team GB skier Gus Kenworthy says he has received death threats after posting a strong anti-ICE message on Instagram ahead of the Winter Olympics in Italy.
The 34-year-old, who was born in Chelmsford and later grew up in the US, said most reactions were supportive but some messages were abusive and threatening. Kenworthy, a silver medallist at the 2014 Winter Olympics who now competes for Great Britain, said people told him to harm himself and even wished serious injuries on him.
Despite the backlash, Kenworthy said he believes it is important to speak out. He will still compete in the men’s snowboard halfpipe event, with Olympic officials confirming he will not face punishment for his post.
