Emma Raducanu’s bid for her first title since the 2021 US Open ended in a heavy defeat to Sorana Cirstea in the Transylvania Open final.
Raducanu, the top seed, was outplayed by 35-year-old Cirstea, who claimed a 6-0 6-2 victory in front of her home crowd in Cluj-Napoca. The British number one looked tired after a three-hour semi-final win over Oleksandra Oliynykova, struggling to match Cirstea’s sharpness and energy.
Raducanu briefly leveled the second set at 2-2 after a medical check, but Cirstea regained control and sealed the match with a double fault at championship point, earning the fourth WTA Tour title of her 20-year career.
