Chelsea and West Ham have been fined after a mass confrontation during their Match

Chelsea and West Ham have been fined £325,000 and £300,000 respectively over a “mass confrontation” during their Premier League game in January.

The clash at Stamford Bridge began when Chelsea forward Joao Pedro reacted to West Ham winger Adama Traore shoving Blues defender Marc Cucurella in added time. Both teams’ players got involved, and West Ham defender Jean-Clair Todibo was sent off for grabbing Joao Pedro by the neck.

The Football Association said both clubs failed to control their players’ “improper, provocative or violent” behaviour, which breached FA rules. Both clubs admitted the charges.

The independent commission described the incident as “serious,” noting that Chelsea players tried to provoke the crowd and that Traore’s reaction triggered the confrontation. While no other West Ham players were violent, many acted improperly and contributed to the unsightly scenes.

Chelsea had just scored an injury-time winner through Enzo Fernandez to come back from 0-2 down to win 3-2.
