Bournemouth make it eight unbeaten as Evanilson secures draw with Sunderland

AFC Bournemouth made it eight Premier League games without defeat as substitute Evanilson scored to earn a 1-1 draw against Sunderland AFC at the Vitality Stadium.

Sunderland took the lead in the 18th minute when Eliezer Mayenda tapped in from close range after Djordje Petrovic pushed Habib Diarra’s powerful shot into his path.

Bournemouth had chances to equalise before half-time, and manager Andoni Iraola brought on Evanilson at the break to add more attacking threat.

The change paid off in the 63rd minute when the Brazilian finished from Marcus Tavernier’s cross. The goal was briefly checked by VAR for possible handball, but replays showed the ball struck his shoulder, so it stood.

Sunderland thought they had grabbed a late winner through Diarra, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

The draw keeps Bournemouth eighth and in the hunt for European qualification, while Sunderland move up to 11th after stopping a three-match losing run.
